Yoga Classes
Hatha
Yoga of activity and balance. Ha ‘sun’ tha ‘moon’. Most forms of yoga in the west can be classed as Hatha they simply refer to a physical practise meaning your Anusura, Vinyasa, Asthanga, Iyengar and Power Yoga.
Vinyasa
Vinyasa or Flow Yoga is a linking system of various movements (asanas) to the breath. A breath synchronised movement. Movements are choreographed from one posture to another with smooth flowing transitions and breath control. Depending on the teacher’s intention for the class, Vinyasa can vary greatly from one class to another or from teacher to teacher making every class unique and different.
Yin Yoga
Yin is the opposite to the more western style yang yoga of Hatha that we are accustomed to.
Yin is still, slow and meditative. Slow sustained stretching to find an edge before allowing the muscles to just give in and let go. It targets the deep connective tissues like the fascia, ligaments joints and bones. The body is supported with props, cushions and blankets. Typically poses are held for around 5 minutes at a time, often performed lying down or seated. There are no handstands, sun salutations, jumps or planks. Yin works along the meridian line’s (channels of energy in the subtle body) and follows a Chinese medicine philosophy.
